The Gut Health to Skin Health Connection

Dr. Mark Iwanicki May 3, 2021

What’s the connection between your skin and your gut? Trick question. There is no connection. They are the same thing.

Both are surfaces outside your body that bacteria live on. What happens to one affects the other.

Humans are really just giant donuts with bacteria living on the delicious surfaces (thanks for that visual Dr Brons). Any infection, parasite, food allergy, inflammation going on in the gut will affect your skin.

What you eat and put into your gut directly affects your skin. Inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, sugar and other potential, individual food triggers will affect your skin. Also bugs like candida, protozoan parasites, and bacterial overgrowth can all affect your skin as well.
